The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has created many resources to prepare providers for HIPAA transaction compliance. The HIPAA Tool Kit is a compilation of many of those resources.

As a covered entity, it is your responsibility to submit HIPAA compliant electronic claims or insure that any third party biller submit HIPAA compliant electronic claims on your behalf.

Electronic claims that are not HIPAA compliant cannot be processed. Claims that cannot be processed cannot be paid.

Key Dates to Remember:

April 16, 2003 — Begin Business-to-Business (B2B) Testing for all HIPAA transactions.
October 16, 2003 — Only HIPAA compliant electronic transactions will be accepted.
